The robot finally gets a boring job

Fischer’s construction robots are being used by Strabag and Ed Zublin to drill around 16,000 holes for heating and cooling ceiling panel fixings on a Frankfurt office building. The useful bit is not the robot itself. It is that the machine is guided by the digital model, drills autonomously, installs anchors, and records the drilling data as it goes.

Climate adaptation becomes heavy civil reality

The Environment Agency and Somerset Council have awarded Kier the £101m construction continuation contract for the Bridgwater Tidal Barrier. The scheme is about flood protection, but the delivery story is broader: enabling works, cofferdams, downstream defences, fish and eel passage improvements, and careful sequencing around live water conditions.

Alstom, Rowad Modern Engineering, and Concrete Plus have signed four contracts with Egyptian National Railways to modernise two rail corridors. When pipeline risk becomes settlement risk

ENR reports that federal offshore-wind buyout and cancellation settlements have grown to an estimated $2.5bn, after a $765m Invenergy deal to voluntarily terminate four leases off New Jersey, Maine, and central California. This is renewables-adjacent, but the construction angle is real: offshore wind means ports, vessels, substations, transmission, marine works, fabrication, and long-lead supply chains.
